Police arrested several suspects and confiscated items including firearms and drugs as part of the ongoing Operation Lockdown in the northern areas.
Five people were arrested and 71 firearms confiscated between Thursday and Friday, police spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu said.
Of the five, three were arrested in separates incidents on Thursday for dealing and possession of drugs after police executed search warrants at their houses and three firearms were confiscated.
In another incident, also on Thursday, members of the Visible Gang Intervention Team arrested a 37-year-old after being alerted to a gang shooting in Kobus Road.
The fifth suspect was arrested in Stag Street, Gelvandale early on Friday morning with a .22 rifle in his possession.
“While conducting random stop and searches in the area, police spotted the suspicious looking man who immediately started to run when he saw them,” Naidu said.
“He was arrested in a yard in Stag Street. It was established that the firearm was stolen in the Uitenhage area.”
Police also confiscated 105 rolls of dagga and 54 tik packets.
