Slain councillor's funeral date announced

The funeral service of the slain ANC councillor candidate Nceba Dywili will be held at Walmer High School on August 7.

A memorial service will be held at the same venue on August 4.

Dywili, the ANC's Ward 4 councillor candidate, was gunned down while dropping off an ANC volunteer in Zwide on Tuesday night.

ANC regional Task Team co-ordinator Beza Ntshona said the funeral would be conducted by the ANC and priests.

Deputy mayor Bicks Ndoni, who was accompanied by deputy national police commissioner Lieutenant-General Gary  Kruser, visited the family on Thursday to assure them the police were looking into the murder.

“People should not start drawing conclusions, police are hard at work to make sure the criminals are apprehended,” he said.

Kruser said they were taking the matter very seriously.

“A special group of people are investigating this matter. They have been at the scene from when the incident happened collecting evidence and we hope to come up with the results soon,” he said.
