Farmer shot dead, wife wounded

An Eastern Cape farmer was shot dead and his wife wounded in an attack on their farm, Fonteintjie, near Steynsburg on Sunday night. Brent Gibbons, 45, was shot several times in the kitchen at about 8pm.

After also being shot, Willemien, 43, alerted a neighbouring farm of the attack via radio, police spokeswoman Captain Ursula Roelofse said. Brent had died on the scene. “Willemien fell next to her husband after being shot, but later managed to reach the radio,” Roelofse said. The suspect fled.
