Jayde murder accused's matter postponed

The final accused to be arrested in connection with Jayde Panayiotou’s murder made a brief appearance in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Friday morning.

Zolani Sibeko, 35, who also uses the name Zolani Roxo, was remanded in custody until next Wednesday when his case will be added to that of his co-accused and transferred to the Port Elizabeth High Court for trial.

His lawyer, Louis van Rensburg, will also decide next week whether or not to bring an application for bail.

Sibeko was arrested at his parent’s home in Greenbushes on Sunday after he was allegedly linked to the offence through cellphone plotting.

He has been charged with Jayde’s kidnapping and murder alongside suspected hitmen Sizwezakhe Vumazonke and Sinethemba Nemembe.

The state claims Jayde’s husband, Christopher, ordered the hit on Jayde in April last year.

Trial is expected to kick off on October 10.

Read about Sibeko’s reaction in court and what he had to say to the reporter in Saturday’s Weekend Post.
