Condom purchase sets social media abuzz

If the receipt of condoms amounting to R1‚052 doing the rounds on social media is anything to go by‚ some revellers had a good time during the Durban July festivities at the weekend.

The receipt shows a purchase of 24 packets of condoms‚ a plastic bag and a bottle of still water at Shell Greenfields Service Station in Ballito‚ Durban.

Of the 24 condoms‚ 19 were Contempo power‚ rough‚ wet and bare condoms. These cost R46.10 each.

The other five were Durex Feather Light condoms‚ which cost R33.90 each.

The receipt does not show the date on which these were purchased but it has a valid telephone number of the service station.

Social media commentators stated the sale was linked to the Durban July parties over the weekend‚ although this could not be confirmed.

One of the managers at the garage‚ who only identified himself as Pregi‚ said people did, on rare occasions‚ buy condoms in bulk.

“It happens when there are rallies and other big events. People come and buy large quantities of condoms.

“We don’t bother to check who they are and who they buy the condoms for and why.

“They could be buying for guest houses. We don’t know‚” Pregi said
