Deputy headboy gets kick out of Harley-Davidson bike escort

CHILDREN’S home resident Athenkosi Fani felt like the president of South Africa last night when he defied his classmates’ disbelief by being escorted to his matric farewell at Running Waters by a posse of HarleyDavidson motorbikes.

His glamorous date was a young beauty queen whom he met through modelling school.

“I never thought I would reach this far; I am the first person in my family to reach matric,” the 19-year-old, who lives at MTR Smit Children’s Haven in Port Elizabeth, said.

Athenkosi, deputy headboy at David Livingstone Senior Secondary School in Schauderville, said media personality Selwyn Willis had helped him to make the roaring cavalcade of bikers a reality.

“I told Selwyn about my dream, that I wanted my farewell to feel like I was going to parliament, with HarleyDavidson motorbikes and a blue light escort, and he organised the motorbikes for me. I am really grateful.”

He met his date, Jamie Lee Sias, through Sophisticate Modelling Agency, and they were voted Mr and Miss Eastern Cape Teen last year.

Willis said he was glad to be able to assist Athenkosi.

“I was given his details by Noelene Jorgensen of Rotary, who asked that I mentor him because he was interested in public speaking,” Willis said.
