Vacancy: Graphic Designer

POSITION:  GRAPHIC DESIGNER
REPORTING TO: NEWS EDITOR
DEPARTMENT: EDITORIAL
LOCATION: PORT ELIZABETH

PURPOSE OF POSITION

To design news and promotional infographics for print and digital use and to support the overall business strategy.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES / OUTCOMES

• Initiate creative and excellent graphics for the main body of the Herald/Weekend Post, supplements, and HeraldLIVE.
• Assist in meeting the needs of all departments within editorial and online.
• Be able to work to a brief, with emphasis placed on accuracy and time management.
• Create, edit and publish timeous news-relevant media on HeraldLIVE.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

• Expert level knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator. Knowledge of Flash and Dreamweaver an advantage.
• Experience with Content Management Systems.
• Experience of advertising, web, and editorial design.
• Understanding and implementation of HTML / CSS.
• Thorough understanding of the printing design process.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
