Position : Marketing Manager

Reporting to : GM: Eastern Cape

Department : Marketing

Location : East London

Purpose of the Job:

  • To design, market and grow our titles in the Eastern Cape.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining & implementing marketing strategies to meet business unit objectives.
Main Responsibilities / Outcomes:
  • Formulate and Implement activities and strategies to support circulation, reader growth and brand enhancement.
  • Effectively leading and directing resources within the marketing team to achieve business strategic goals.
  • Identification of partners and development of proposals to procure sponsorship.
  • Develop strategies that will market social media and digital platforms.
  • Compile Marketing promotional plans and advertising briefs.
  • Develop and evaluate brand and marketing strategies that drive product sales.
  • Develop and manage marketing plans and budgets on all marketing projects.
  • Develop and maintain business partnerships and relationships in the business environment.
  • New Area/Town Business Development Opportunities.
  • Project management, research and identification of media opportunities.
  • Brand custodianship.
  • Provide the linkage or channel of communication between all departments.
  • Poster Management.
  • Merchandising.
  • Circulation copy sales and promotions.
  • Profit Generating Events Management.
  • Staff Functions, Internal Promotions and Participation programmes.
  • Sales Experience or Technique to establish relationships.
  • Events / Project Management Experience.

  • Excellent brand management knowledge and experience.
  • A track record in marketing. Knowledge of newspapers / publishing industry.
  • A strong, proven ability to implement plans and schedules using a hands-on approach.
  • Ability to think laterally and strategically.
  • Project management skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
    • Thorough knowledge of marketing strategies and implementation thereof.
       Personal Competencies:
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate at a strategic level.
  • Flexible, adaptable and able to multi-task.
  • Assertive, tenacious and driven.
  • Empathy and EQ.
Minimum Requirements:
  • B degree in Marketing or equivalent.
  • Post graduate degree will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years experience at a middle or senior management position in marketing / advertising within the media industry.
    • Experience in MS Office applications.
    • Working knowledge of sales techniques.
    • Understanding of social media.
