Good service goes back generations

THREE generations of a Port Elizabeth family use the same hairdresser and would not think of going anywhere else for a quick cut.

Kevin Olivier, 59, his son Russell, 33, and grandson Max, 14 months, are well known regulars at Dorasamy’s Hair Studio by Mardi and Taahira.

The studio was opened in 1948 by Dora Dorasamy in South End.

It is now run by Dora’s son, Mardi Dorasamy, 67, in Parsons Hill.

“I got my first haircut from Mardi and back then they were still in South End,” Kevin said.

Adding to the long line of tradition, Kevin’s late father and grandfather also got a quick “back and sides” at Dorasamy’s Hair Studio by Taahira.

“It was my father, Joe Fischer, who took me there as he used to have his hair cut by the late Dora,” Kevin said.

“Since then we have not used any other salon in Port Elizabeth. We have had one barber all our lives.

“Mardi was trained by his father and is doing a good job.”

Mardi said: “Loyalty goes a long way and that is why the Oliviers are still stuck with us.

“We are more like family and they have invited me to all their family events.”
