Chippa take first step in twinning deal with Atletico

Spanish giants Atletico Madrid and Chippa United have agreed to a twinning deal which will take the development of soccer to another level in Nelson Mandela Bay. The partnership will see the establishment of a sporting arena and an academy in Port Elizabeth. The finer details of the deal will be agreed on in Spain next month. An excited Chippa United boss Siviwe Mpengesi said the partnership would be similar to that of Ajax Cape Town and Ajax Amsterdam.

“I think, eventually, that is where it will go,” he said. “For them to invest all their resources, bring their partners and sponsorships, they have to make sure that, administratively, we are not found wanting. “Atletico are very strong in football development. They say they are running the best academy in the world. “The partnership is going to be between them, the municipality and us to develop not one academy, but many academies and schools of excellence in Port Elizabeth. “We are very excited about this.” Mpengesi said the Atletico delegates were impressed by what they had seen and with the metro.
