Gugu Zulu's life to be honoured at a memorial today

Hundreds of friends‚ family‚ fans and high-profile personalities are expected to gather at the Kyalami Race Track in Midrand today to pay tribute to the late Gugu Zulu.

It's been just over seven days since the entire nation woke up to the news of Zulu's death‚ which has left those close to him shaken and in shock.

The racing car driver died last Monday while climbing Mount Kilimanjaro as part of a Trek4Mandela expedition to raise funds for sanitary pads for young girls in need.

The public memorial service is set to get underway at 11am at the race track.

Speaking to TMG Entertainment‚ family spokesman Tseliso Motloheloa said that everything is on track for the service.

"The memorial is expected to start at 11 am until 2pm and everyone is welcome to come‚" Motloheloa  said.

He said that Zulu's entire family including his widow‚ Letshego who was at his side during his final moments‚ will be at the service.

Letshego has refrained from granting any media interviews since Zulu's death.

Speaking about Zulu's widow‚ Motloheloa said that she was "coping."

"As the elders of the family we are not allowing her to grant any media interviews because her emotions are still raw‚ I mean she was there with him. As her family we cannot allow that‚" Motloheloa explained.

Zulu's parents Peter and Puleng spoke out for the first time since their son's death last Friday‚ saying that even though they are devastated by the loss of their son they hope that young people take lessons from his life.

Zulu will be laid to rest on Thursday (July 28) at the Westpark cemetery after a funeral service at the Rhema Bible Church in Randburg.
