Danny Jordaan cut a jovial figure as he walked through Booysen Park, Port Elizabeth, yesterday, laughing and hugging supporters who trailed behind him while he canvassed to be re-elected Nelson Mandela Bay mayor.

Jordaan arrived as residents from the Marikana and Qunu informal settlements were protesting and blocking roads over housing needs.

Upon seeing him, the angry groups raised their grievances but soon joined Jordaan’s entourage to campaign on behalf of the ANC.

He walked around, doing door-to-door visits along with ANC councillors Andile Mfunda and Babalwa Lobishe.

Walking the streets of Booysen Park, Jordaan waved at residents and onlookers who were standing inside their yards. Some were so excited to see him that they flung themselves toward him to get a hug.

He was followed by a crowd dressed in ANC gear.
