WATCH: Juno set for Jupiter fling

Nasa’s Juno spacecraft will meet Jupiter – entering the gas giants orbit –  early on Tuesday morning

This will involve a tense 35 minute burn of its main engine‚ to slow it down to about 1‚ 12 miles per hour (542m per second) in order to allow it to be caught by the planet’s gravity.

Once there‚ the plan is to have Juno orbit the planet 37 times during 20 months‚ skimming to within 3 100 miles (5 000 km) above the cloud tops‚ giving scientists an unprecedented view of it.

Nasa’s Voyager tweeted: “Say hi to #Jupiter for me‚ @NASAJuno! In polar orbit‚ you'll see a different side than I did during my 1979 flyby”

“Remembering my #Jupiter flyby in 2000/2001‚ and wishing @NASAJuno every success tomorrow and in the months to come!‚” The Cassini mission tweeted.

You can watch the whole thing unfold live at 10:30pm ET (4:30 AM‚ Tuesday) on Nasa’s public education channel at https://youtu.be/UdmHHpAsMVw
