Four held for attack at Addo guesthouse

FOUR suspected robbers who allegedly beat up a guest at the Lenmore Bed & Breakfast in Addo this week have been arrested.

Addo detectives arrested four of five suspected robbers, aged between 19 and 37, at houses in Nomathamsanqa in Addo at about 5am yesterday. The fifth man is still being sought.

Police spokeswoman Captain Gerda Swart said detectives had worked through the night following up leads.

Several stolen items were allegedly found in the men’s possession when they were arrested.

Swart said the attack had happened at about 10pm on Tuesday.

“It is alleged that the man, 76, heard a loud noise at about 10.05pm outside his room and went to investigate,” she said

“He was approached by two unidentified men and allegedly hit over the head with an iron bar by a third person.

“It is further alleged that the suspects entered the room and took electronic equipment, clothing, cellphones and so on before fleeing.”

Swart said other guests had alerted the police after hearing cries for help.

The victim, who is from out of town, has not been named by the police.

He was admitted to a Uitenhage hospital for treatment.
