Nominate your local hero for COTY 2016

THE search is on to find and recognise those in our communities – including our youth – who make a difference.

Originally launched in 1989, The Herald GM Citizen of the Year Award identifies those who positively contribute to the upliftment of the community and aim to build and maintain projects which support the wellbeing of others.

These individuals are doing public good, but over and above their normal work, they are doing something extra-special for which they are not getting paid.

Previous winners include Missionvale’s Sister Ethel Normoyle, who won the inaugural award in 1989, rape survivor and motivational speaker Alison Botha, Bay mayor Danny Jordaan, educator Mzimkhulu Qunta and the Rev Simon Gqubule, whose funeral recently was attended by leading academics and church leaders who paid tribute to a towering theologian and teacher.

Herald readers are now invited to nominate worthy candidates from the Eastern and Southern Cape – people identified for their outstanding role-model qualities.

Finalists and overall winners can look forward to winning their share of shopping vouchers worth up to R60 000. Nomination forms are available and can be submitted online using this link:  Entries close 15 July 2016 at noon.
