Cyclist hit by bakkie on N2 near Cotswold

A cyclist was killed when he reportedly swerved in front of a bakkie on the N2 near the Cotswold interchange yesterday morning.

Police spokesman Warrant Officer Alwin Labans said the incident had taken place at about 6.20am.

“The cyclist, aged between 25 and 35, was riding between the Cotswold and Stanford Road interchanges when he is believed to have swerved in front of a bakkie.

“The bakkie hit him and he died on the scene,” he said. “His identity is unknown as he had no documentation.”

Labans said the driver had stopped after the accident and alerted the police. A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
