ANC branch hails return of 30 former Gqabi supporters

THE ANC yesterday welcomed back to its ranks 30 members who were previously supporters of Uitenhage independent councillor Andile Gqabi.

The party had expected to welcome 60 members from Gqabi’s group, but only 30 attended the welcoming ceremony at the Bantu Church of Christ in KwaNobuhle.

The church is a stone’s throw from Gqabi’s office.

Meanwhile, 15 members outside Gqabi’s office were passing remarks to those who made their way past to the church.

Gqabi broke away from the ANC after the party fired him and fielded another candidate, Mazwi Mini, to replace him in a by-election.

He stood as an independent candidate and won that by-election.
