'Charge Zuma' - Mmusi Maimane to NPA

Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane has called on the National Prosecuting Authority of South Africa (NPA) to immediately continue with the 783 charges against President Jacob Zuma.

“We want President Jacob Zuma to come to court and face the charges against him‚” Maimane said after the full bench of the high court in Pretoria set aside the decision to discontinue his prosecution in April 2009.

The then Acting National Director of Public Prosecutions Mokotedi Mpshe dropped the charges after listening to conversations which purportedly showed that there was an abuse of process in the timing of serving an indictment to Zuma.

“We still believe that his decision was irrational‚ unreasonable and made with an ulterior motive‚” Maimane said in court moments after judgment was passed.

The high court set aside Mpshe’s decision‚ finding it was irrational.
