Zuma joins choir in signature ‘bring me my machine gun’ struggle song

Under-fire President Jacob Zuma on Friday led a choir in song and dance to his controversial signature song, "Umshini wami", which in English means, Bring me my machine gun.

In an event at the Port Elizabeth harbour, where he was updating invited guests on his government’s plan to grow South Africa’s ocean economy, Zuma was cheered by the mainly ANC crowd, who also chanted his names repeatedly.

Leaving the marquee, the Transnet choir belted out his “Umshini wami", song, which saw Zuma getting back on stage to dance and lead the choir in song.

In his address, Zuma commended strides made in the implementation of Operation Phakisa, saying that government investment into the plan was already starting to yield results.

“We have indeed made strides in Operation Phakisa, thanks to a collaboration between business, labour, academia and government,” he said. “Working together, we can make faster progress. There is little progress made working in silos.”
