Cops’ search for activist continues

DESPITE media reports at the weekend that #Outsourcingmustfall activist Vusi Mahlangu was safe and in hiding, police are still classifying him as missing.

National media reports said Mahlangu had been found following an SMS allegedly sent to fellow activists saying he was in a safe place with bruises on his body.

Reports claimed it was due to public pressure that he had been found.

However, Mthatha police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela said yesterday they were still searching for Mahlangu.

“They can send as many SMSes as they want, but until he presents himself to the station with proof of identification . . . then he is still missing,” Fatyela said.

This was despite #Outsourcingmustfall spokesman Mametlwe Sebei having posted a message on the campaign’s social media site on Thursday, saying “Vusi is safe”.

No further information was provided as Sebei said they had not been able to speak to Mahlangu directly.

Cellphone calls and SMSes to Sebei yesterday went unanswered.

Mahlangu, 33, from Mpumalanga, went missing on Tuesday while in town to support a Walter Sisulu University workers’ strike.
