Metro security head wants to step down

BARELY two months in charge of Nelson Mandela Bay’s safety and security department, Pinkie Mathabathe has asked to be relieved of her duties as acting executive director.

Should her request be granted, Mathabathe will return to her position as metro police chief.

The municipality is keeping mum about the reasons for her request, stating only that she had raised a “particular contractual matter”.

Municipal insiders said her decision followed a lengthy meeting with acting city manager Johann Mettler earlier this week.

Mathabathe, appointed by the council in November to head the safety and security department, took over when former executive director Shane Brown asked to be demoted.
