Six arrested in Kamesh, Uitenhage

Six suspects were arrested and a firearm seized after a 35-year-old man was shot and injured at Puffin Street in Kamesh, Uitenhage yesterday morning.

Police in Kamesh with assistance from surrounding stations stopped a white Daihatsu minibus on R75 near Azalia Park in Despatch after a high speed chase.

According to police, six men travelling inside a minibus were arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

SAPS responded to a complaint of shooting in Puffin Street, Kamesh in Uitenhage, and obtained a description of a white minibus with six armed suspects that were allegedly involved in a shooting.

Shortly after, the police spotted a minibus fitting the description driving at high speed in Caledon Street in Uitenhage and gave chase.

A minibus was cornered and stopped on R75 near Azalia Park in Despatch. Several items presumed to be stolen were also recovered from a minibus.

A minibus, 9mm pistol with five live rounds, backpack with jewellery, a computer tower and three cellphones were seized.

The 35-year-old victim that was shot in the leg and buttocks was sent to hospital for treatment.

The suspects aged between 20 and 34 are to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of presumed stolen property.
