All the staff at the South African embassy in Jakarta were said to be safe after bomb blasts rocked the Indonesian capital on Thursday (14/01/2016) morning.
That’s according to the Department of International Relations and Co-operation’s media liaison‚ Nelson Kgwete‚ who tweeted: “No indication of SA casualties in #Jakarta. All embassy staff are accounted for and are unharmed.”
Media reports on Thursday morning said that up to six people had been killed in a “series of suicide bombings”‚ and that there were on-going gun battles in the streets.
Agencies reported that intelligence authorities said there were no indications that Islamic State militants were behind the attacks as had been claimed earlier.
