Another gang killing in Bay

ONE person was killed and five others escaped unharmed in three separate shooting incidents in Port Elizabeth’s northern areas in the last 24 hours. In two of the shootings, police said it was unclear whether they were linked to gang warfare. Police spokesman Warrant Officer Alwin Labans said the first incident occurred at about 2pm on Tuesday in Clare Street, Korsten, where three men sitting on the pavement outside a shop were targeted. “Three men approached those sitting on the pavement and one pulled out a firearm and started shooting. The men [on the pavement] managed to flee unscathed,” he said. “The shooting is believed to be gang-related.” In another incident on the same day, Marlon May, 33, was gunned down in Drophy Street, Bloemendal, at about 7.30pm.

He was walking in the street when people in a Toyota Tazz drove by and opened fire on him. He was hit several times and died at the scene. The latest incident happened shortly before midnight on Tuesday when a man started shooting at two people sitting outside a house in Bardien Avenue, Bloemendal. “The victims managed to run into the house and were unharmed. The shooter fled on foot,” Labans said. He was unable to say whether the last two shootings were gang-related, but confirmed that nothing had been stolen.
