Suspect in court for New Year’s Eve break-in

A 28-year-old man who was arrested for allegedly breaking into a house on New Year’s Eve was released on R300 bail by the Port Elizabeth Magistrate court earlier today.

Police spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu said Tembelani Ntontiso was arrested after allegedly breaking into a Walmer location house sometime between 8pm on December 31 and 7am on January 1.

“Entry was gained by breaking a bedroom window. A computer valued at R4000 was stolen. Investigations led police to a house in Walmer location where parts of the stolen equipment were recovered,” she said.

“On Saturday police then went to a different house where the remaining half of the computer was found and the suspect arrested.

“The police appreciate the community’s participation in the fight against crime and they urge the community to continue to provide information relating to criminal activities in their areas.

“Information supplied to the police will be treated as strictly confidential,” she added.

Naidu said that Ntontiso was released on bail by the court yesterday morning but due to reappear in the same court on March 1.
