Two women rescued after being swept out to sea

Two Pretoria women were rescued after being swept out to sea by rip currents at Secrets Beach near Jeffreys Bay in the Eastern Cape on Saturday evening.

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) at Jeffreys Bay said that two surfers had swum out to help them and taken life jackets with them. They were able to assist the two ladies to rocks and NSRI rescuers had managed to bring them back safely ashore.

“One woman was seriously injured‚ lapsing in and out of consciousness‚ and she was treated for non-fatal drowning symptoms and transported to hospital by Private Care ambulance in a stable but serious condition and she is expected to fully recover.

“The second woman did not require assistance‚” the NSRI said.
