#ZumaMustFall trends

#ZumaMustFall trended on Twitter a day after the country’s leader sacked Finance Minister Nhanhla Nene.

The hashtag appeared to have been started by Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane who tweeted at the end of a rant in reaction to Jacob Zuma’s surprise announcement on Wednesday: “In conclusion: it's time that we fire Jacob Zuma. #ZumaMustFall”.

Nene was widely reported to have fallen foul of Zuma for his insistence on fiscal prudence‚ cutting corruption and reigning in government spending.

Kavisha Pillay ‏@Kavs_Pillay asked: “Does anyone find it ironic that Nene got fired on International Anti-corruption Day? #ZumaMustFall”

Zip ‏@zippiper started Thursday with a negative outlook: “Markets open at 9am *assume the brace yourself position* #ZumaMustFall”.

#ZuluGirls ‏@JustKholii_ seemed to agree with the sentiment of the hashtag‚ but was at a loss as to an alternative: “We can't trust the DA - They are too white.. Can't trust the EFF - They are too black .. Can't trust the ANC - Because of Zuma #ZumaMustFall”.

Solo Mo ‏@solomon_modisha‚ however‚ appeared to know where the solution lay: “We the students of the country will handle this‚ We Will riot against corrupt Zuma and his puppets come 2016! #ZumaMustFall @MyANC_”.

Siya Nkabinde ‏@cya_nkabz also saw a solution‚ but said it needed to be taken beyond social media: “Hash tags in this day and age are powerful but powerless if that's all they will be. Vote for what you want #ZumaMustFall”.

MGM ‏@Trinidad_Gift just seemed resigned to the situation: “That awkward moment when you realize your country is lead by the most dumbest butternut head and his clueless #ZumaMustFall”.
