Councillor Mali's DA membership terminated

Nelson Mandela Bay councillor Knight Mali’s DA membership has been terminated, it was announced today.

According to a press statement, councillor Mali was under suspension for a number of different and serious charges brought against him.  His disciplinary process was underway, but had been delayed a number of times due to the requests of his previous and current legal representatives. During this period of suspension he was implicated in activities and actions that contravened very specific provisions of the DA Constitution.

"The Federal Legal Commision-appointed panel then considered what he had submitted and concluded that his reasons were neither clear nor equivocal.  They thereafter proposed that his membership be terminated.  At a meeting of the Federal Executive yesterday ( Monday, 7 December) the Federal Executive concluded unanimously that cllr Mali’s membership be terminated", the statement reads.

This decision has now been followed up by informing the former councillor of the decision.  The provincial and local IEC will be informed, as will the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality, in order that the resultant (PR) vacancy be declared so that the necessary steps can be put in place to replace the former councillor.
