ABOUT 200 workers and students marched peacefully to NMMU’s South Campus yesterday to hand over a memorandum of demands to vice-chancellor Professor Derrick Swartz.

The march, organised and led by the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu), started at the university’s North Campus with only few protesters.

But the march picked up momentum on the way to South Campus with more students joining in.

Support staff at NMMU downed tools on Monday and have refused to work until issues around outsourcing and transformation have been resolved.

After receiving the memorandum, Swartz said university management would provide feedback within seven days.
