Readers get R50 000 chance to bring Cheer

IN the spirit of giving – and winning – The Herald Christmas Cheer Fund charity drive kicks off today with one generous soul in line to win R50 000 in cash.

With its long and successful history, the Christmas Cheer Fund has been encouraging the spirit of goodwill for over a century.

Benefiting children, the aged, the poor, the ill and the disabled, last year about 100 000 people had a merrier Christmas as a result of the generosity of donors.

A total of 68 charity organisations benefited.

Christmas Cheer Beggar-in-Chief Steven Lancaster said he was proud to be involved with the fund as “we strive to put every cent to great use, so your donations benefit those who sincerely need it”.

“The Herald Christmas Cheer Fund is run with integrity and the sole focus is to bring joy to thousands of people in our readership area,” Lancaster said.

“You don’t get this everywhere, every day.

“So when you find a charity, one that does all it can to support those who need it most, it is with a joyful heart that you can make a contribution.”

The general public can contribute towards The Herald Christmas Cheer Fund by means of an SMS donation. By donating, readers stand a chance to win R50 000 cash through a lucky draw.

A R10 donation will afford you one entry into the draw, R20 three entries and R30 five entries.

Readers should simply SMS the word SMILE to 38223 (to donate R10), HAPPY to 40117 (to donate R20), and CHRISTMAS to 42332 (to donate R30).

Businesses are also encouraged to get involved.

Corporate organisations who donate will be entered into a draw to win R50 000 worth of advertising space in The Herald.

Businesses which donate R20 000 or more will receive an advertorial feature in The Herald detailing their corporate social responsibility initiatives.
