Eastern Cape police commissioner General Celiwe Binta has condemned the latest killing of a policewoman in Port Elizabeth this morning.

Constable Nomathamsanqa Ivy Tsitsi, 36, was shot shortly after arriving at her residence in Motherwell this morning. She sustained injuries to the upper body and passed away at the scene.

“It is in indeed a sad day for the police in the province when we report the killing of yet another police official. It is with immeasurable sadness that we express our sincerest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the late Constable Nomathamsanqa Ivy Tsitsi.

“We condemn the killing in the strongest possible way and will zealously bring to book those who never think twice when shooting and murdering police officials. We will also provide all the necessary support to our slain colleague’s family to help them through this very testing time,” Binta said.

Binta also called on police officers to observe safety measures at all times and to be alert against attacks, whether on or off duty.

"The motive for the murder is under investigation and we do not wish to speculate on the reason for the attack at this early stage," she added.

Tsitsi joined the SA Police Service on January 10 2005 and was stationed at the Zwide police station.
