One person was killed when a light aircraft crashed at the Port Elizabeth Airport on Saturday afternoon (07/11/15).
According to police, the aircraft experienced engine failure minutes after take-off.
“The pilot attempted to turn back, lost control and crashed on the west-side of the perimeter fence,” police spokeswoman Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, said in a statement.
The aircraft caught fire on impact and Airport Fire and Rescue services responded to the scene to extinguish the fire.
The pilot was the only person on-board and died during the crash-landing.
Information regarding the pilot will be released at a later stage.
The crash comes just a day after a pilot narrowly escaped death when he had to make an emergency landing on a dairy farm in the Greenbushes area outside Port Elizabeth yesterday.
