Fees boycott threat if Jeffreys Bay mess not cleared up

CAMPERS at the Jeffreys Bay Caravan Park are fuming over a sewage spill that has played havoc with their holidays. Parts of the Da Gama Road park have been flooded since heavy rain on Sunday.

But when The Herald visited the park yesterday morning, Kouga employees were working on the problem. Still, some of the campers said they were going to stop paying the daily R195 fee if the problem was not fixed properly by this morning.

Gert Knoetze, 63, of Despatch, said the sewage woes started on Sunday afternoon.

“We could not use the toilets as they were blocked. The place immediately became flooded with sewage. The situation was made worse by the heavy rains.

“The drains are overflowing and all of that goes straight to the beach.”

Knoetze said one camper had left because his caravan was “floating” in the sewage.

“We have decided that we will not pay the daily fee if this problem is not fixed,” Knoetze said.

Another camper, who declined to give his name, said he arrived at the park on Monday.

“The situation was worse because I could not use the toilets.
