Several UK volunteers, children and teachers were left traumatised after gunmen stormed a Port Elizabeth daycare centre this morning.

Motherwell police are searching for suspects who robbed the Ikhaya Daycare Centre in Kunene Street, Soweto-On-Sea, today.

It is alleged the suspects entered the premises at 9:15 this morning, one of them armed with a firearm, and threatened the group of people - including eight tourists who visited the centre.

One shot was fired and the robbers took personal possession including phones, bags and wallets from their victims.

According to police the suspects escaped on foot and nobody was injured during the attack.

"A task team was established to investigate an armed robbery and attempted murder case which has been opened," police said in a statement.

Police are appealing to anyone with information that can lead to the arrest and successful conviction of the suspected robbers to contact police. For more on this story, get your copy of The Herald tomorrow.
