Bay principal still at home on ‘sick leave’ more than a year after being axed by Sadtu

MORE than a year after being booted out as president of the SA Democratic Teachers’ Union (Sadtu), Thobile Ntola has not worked a single day at the Port Elizabeth high school where he is supposed to serve as principal.

And since being axed from Sadtu on May 19 last year on charges of corruption and bringing the union into disrepute, he has addressed workers at several meetings, alongside expelled Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi and officials of the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa).

Ntola is the convener of the SA Public Service Union (Sapsu), which was launched last year in Johannesburg with the aim of challenging Sadtu and other Cosatu public service affiliates. -Mkhululi Ndamase and Hendrick Mphande
