Electricity strike limits load-shedding

AN unofficial strike by Nelson Mandela Bay electricity workers protesting against their scarce skills allowances being cut saw most in the city escape weekend load-shedding.

Residents were left confused as their power stayed on despite outage notifications, with the municipality unable to say when loadshedding would resume.

Municipal spokesman Mthubanzi Mniki confirmed yesterday that electricity staff were on strike. This had affected municipal operations.

Striking workers and the municipality are scheduled to meet today, which Mniki said could “translate into negotiations”. -Devon Koen
