‘I have so much anger in me, which is not in my character’
THE day Delaille Hewitt first heard that her world champion tennis player husband was being accused of rape was also the day she started chemotherapy.
Diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2011, Delaille, now 71, says this was also the day her happiness was stolen.
And now, as the family wait for sentencing after which an appeal will be lodged, she is more determined than ever to see her husband Bob’s name cleared.
Last month, Hewitt was found guilty of rape and indecent assault for abusing three of his tennis pupils while they were underage in the 1980s and 1990s.
Sitting on the couch in the home she shares with Hewitt and their six Jack Russells, it is easy to imagine Delaille as the pretty 19-year-old who turned the head of, arguably, one of the most famous men in tennis.
