Israel refuses Blade Nzimande visa

The SACP and the government yesterday reacted with fury after Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande was denied a visa by Israel to visit his Palestinian counterpart.

The SACP, which Nzimande serves as general secretary, said it was appalled by the Israeli government's decision.

Nzimande and his entourage were due to leave South Africa on a four-day visit to Palestine, where they were to, among other things, meet his counterpart, Khawla al-Shakhsheer.

The purpose of the meeting was to encourage further collaboration among Palestinian and South African academics.
