A small group of people gathered outside the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court today (24/04/15) waiting for a Westering couple, arrested in connection with an international child pornography ring, to appear. Some were holding banners saying “every image is a crime scene”.

The organisation Women And Men Against Child Abuse (WMACA) said yesterday that protesters will be at court today to support a “protest campaign to ensure maximum penalties are prescribed and maximum direct prison sentences are given by the State.”

The Westering pair have been linked to an international child pornography ring that distributes shocking footage of the rape, torture and murder of newborns and babies still in nappies.

Investigations into the porn ring led in January to the arrest of a Plettenberg Bay man linked to the same network.

The Westering couple were arrested in March this year following a two-week sting operation.
