A 24-year-old man was arrested by police this morning (13/04/15) in connection with the vandalism the Queen Victoria statue in Port Elizabeth last week.

EFF regional science, technology and education officer Paul Walsh, was taken to court shorty after his arrest where he will appear today.

On Friday Nelson Mandela Bay’s EFF deputy chairman, Bo Madwara, distanced the party from the attack. On the same day Walsh also said the vandalism was not carried out by the party.

The statue, which stands outside the public library in the Port Elizabeth city centre, was splattered with green paint late on Thursday.

The Herald published exclusive video footage of the incident which can be viewed here.

Reporters from the Herald were on the scene for the arrest and court appearance. Get your copy of The Herald tomorrow for the full story.
