The expression “No one wants to be the ugly WAG” is about to be put to the test.
Five of the most fame-hungry South African soccer wives and girlfriends will try to outdo each other in a new reality TV show, Diski Divas, which premieres at 6pm on Mzansi Magic on Sunday.
But no, it will not feature the most-discussed WAG of them all: Pulane Lenkoe – the girlfriend of Orlando Pirates midfielder Thandani Ntshumayelo – who found unwanted internet fame when pictures of her naked were leaked online.
But the show will star Felicia Modise, the former wife of Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teko Modise, and Katlego Mohoaduba, of Big Brother fame, who had a brief dalliance with former Kaizer Chiefs captain Jimmy Tau.
Also featured are celebrity fitness trainer Nonhle Ndala, the inamorata of Bafana Bafana star Andile Jali; Gaositwe Pule, the fiancee of Bafana Bafana and AFC Bournemouth striker Tokelo Rantie; and Wendy Parker, the wife of Kaizer Chiefs striker Bernard Parker.
Expect back-stabbing, glitz, glamour, fashion, parties and more back-stabbing.
Viewers will be taken into the lives and homes of the women, and get an up-close view of what it takes to live in the fast-paced world of football.
Mohoaduba, a finalist in the first season of Big Brother Mzansi , got a shout-out on Twitter from @meamyT, who wrote: “Wow friend! I’m so proud of ya! Looking Hot on the #DiskiDivas ad! Can’t wait for the day .”
But other social media users regarded Mohoaduba with more suspicion than praise.
The 23-year-old is said to have “recently” dated Tau after meeting him on her lunch break while she was working at a bank.
@Phoni_F said: “This Kat chick dated Jimmy Tau for a few months and now she’s featured on this Diski Divas show. People would do anything for fame, shame.”
@Marc_RNavy dismissed the show entirely, writing: ” Diski Divas will be a bigger flop. I’m actually not prepared to watch it. They will create fake, unnecessary drama for ratings.”
