In another blow for the cash-strapped Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Uitenhage, two of the centre’s storage containers were set alight last night (19/03/15).

According to Uitenhage SPCA manager Koos Croucamp none of the animals were harmed even though the containers, which were used to store cat and dog food and jumble sale items, blazed right next to the cattery.

The incident comes after the SPCA also fell victim to crime in October last year when two washing machines, a microwave oven and a kettle were stolen.

“I have no idea why someone would do this. People are sick,” Croucamp said.

According to Croucamp the containers as well as the content of the containers needs to be replaced and the centre is requesting donations of dog good, cat food, puppy food, kitten food, blankets, financial donations and good quality, clean, second hand items for their jumble sale following the incident.
