AN excited Bloemendal couple walked away with prizes worth R64 000 when they were named The Herald Bride and Groom 2014 winner at the Beach Hotel in Port Elizabeth last night.
More than 300 entries were submitted and 12 couples went through to the final round.
Winning couple Allister Commons, 32, and Alethea, 24, said they could not wait to enjoy their prizes.
“We can’t believe that we actually won. We have no words to express our gratitude and can’t wait until we go on the cruise,” Alethea, a nurse, said.
“[Netcare paramedic] Allister and I both have demanding schedules and I can’t wait until we can spend some quality alone time. And I won’t have to worry about doing the dishes when we come back because now I’ll have some help, thanks to the dishwasher from Defy,” she said.
Their prizes include an MSC Cruises holiday to Mozambique, jewellery from Francarlo Designer Goldsmith, Defy appliances, hair-styling and hair-styling products from Ultimate Stylists, flowers from Pollen, a Sphere photographic shoot, a gourmet dinner with 10 friends at Thunzi Bush Lodge from Three Fat Fish Catering and the Function Warehouse, and a Herald subscription.
Stephanie Saanglai from XOXO Photographic took the winning photograph, and wins a digital printing prize from Kodak Express.
Herald Citizen of the Year 2014 winner, the Rev Dr Simon Gqubule from Uitenhage, and last year’s bride and groom winners Marc and Kim Chong-Seng helped La Femme editor Gillian McAinsh choose the winners, along with SMS input from our readers.
The finalists all received prizes, while one reader who correctly predicted the Commons couple would take the title wins a prize worth R8 000. See La Femme next week for the winner of the Readers’ Choice competition and more.
