THE residents of Colemborg apartment complex in Fairbridge Heights, Uitenhage were in an uproar yesterday, calling for the dismissal of Jackie Adams, the municipal worker charged with the maintenance of the complex.

According to the residents of the municipal social development apartments, Adams has not listened to their grievances for more than seven years, leaving them to live in squalor, while playing favourites and giving one resident, Leona Oosthuizen, 50, special treatment.

The residents lined the building’s courtyard with placards yesterday, asking for her dismissal and accusing her of siding with Oosthuizen.

The situation volatile after a meeting last week.

“Oosthuizen used racial slurs, which are very offensive to the coloured community, telling me that she would not take orders from me and that she wished I died of a heart attack,” retired police became residents’ officer Desmond White, 59, who was chosen as speaker for the residents, said.
