FIVE Port Elizabeth schoolgirls were treated to a limousine ride and a day of pampering by Reach for a Dream yesterday because Kayleen Plaatjies, 16, didn’t want to have a special day without her ‘besties’.

“When they asked what I wanted to do I knew I wanted to include my best friends. They have been there for me,” said the Booysens Park girl who last year was diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus, which affects her kidneys.

Michelle van Huyssteen of Reach for a Dream accompanied the stretch-limo sponsored by Georgiou Boutique Hotel and Spa to surprise Kayleen at Chatty High School .

Her reaction was priceless.

“In my seven years with the foundation I have never seen that level of excitement. She truly couldn’t believe her eyes,” said Van Huyssteen who had organised picking her up under the guise of them doing charity work at a hospital.

Kayleen took her friends Brittney Jass, 15, Andrea Jass, 14, and cousins Tiffany Laminie, 12, and Mekayla Laminie, 13, with her to the Camelot Spa at the Radisson Blu hotel where the girls were treated like princesses.

Decked out in towelling gowns and slippers they were given snacks and drinks while being pampered with a range of beauty treatments from manicures, pedicures and massages to facials and even hydro therapy, a treat the girls had not experienced before.

“It is more than just a dream come true for me,” said Kayleen.
