Details emerge of humewood hijacking, shootout

Swift reaction by the Port Elizabeth Flying Squad led to the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of a hijacked vehicle last night (25/02/15).

It is alleged that a 19-year-old woman was waiting for a friend in her vehicle when she was confronted by three suspects in Oceanview Street, Humewood, Port Elizabeth, Police spokesman Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said today.

One of the suspects was armed with a firearm and demanded the phone and car keys. The suspects – aged between 17 and 30 years – fled the scene with the vehicle.

The incident was reported to police and the information was circulated immediately. The vehicle was spotted in the Schaurderville area 30 minutes later and a high speed chase and shooting ensued between the suspects and police.

Two of the suspects, one female and one male, were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds and are under police guard.

The third suspect was arrested and will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 02 March 2015 on charges of hijacking, attempted murder and reckless and negligent driving.

Now the people must raise up the police officers and all who helped to bring about this arrest and detention of utter criminals. The best training for any person or animal is to be praised and told you have done well, I would run the hat around and see that they are rewarded. God Bless you all and keep up the good work.
