Principal probed as teaching disrupted at Kirkwood school
THE principal of a Kirkwood high school who is being investigated following allegations of illegally promoting undeserving pupils could face serious charges if the evidence against him is compelling enough.
Moses Mabhida Senior Secondary School principal Boy Nene is being probed by the Uitenhage district office for the alleged questionable promotion of pupils after the school’s inspector raised red flags over breaches of regulations.
About a quarter of the school’s Grade 11 pupils were condoned from Grade 10 – a contravention of the Basic Education Department’s promotion policy that states “no condonation in Grade 10 and 11”.
Pupils may have to repeat the grade.
This comes after months of simmering tensions between staff and the principal – which saw pupils not receiving lessons since the start of the term – boiled over yesterday, as parents demanded answers.
