Bay adventure junkie Main tells of 20km Mauritius swim

NOT even a jellyfish sting or a shark sighting could keep Port Elizabeth adventure swimmer Kyle Main, 32, from finishing his latest endurance expedition – swimming from Flat Island to Grand Baie in Mauritius.

“I knew no one had tried it before so there was no way to know what to expect, no way to research it, but I had always dreamt of swimming between two islands so when the opportunity presented itself I had to take it,” Main, who finished the 20km swim in four hours, said.

Flat Island, at the extreme north of Mauritius, includes an internationally famous dive site called The Shark Pit which attracts a multitude of sharks, but it was a jellyfish sting that almost put an end to Main’s adventure.
