Wind farms barely create a spark

Wind energy contributes but a drop in the ocean to Eskom’s massive electricity crisis in South Africa – for now.

The MetroWind Van Stadens wind farm outside Port Elizabeth was the first commercial wind farm in the country to come online and feed electricity into the Eskom grid, more than a year ago.

Several other wind farms in the province that were part of the first round of the Energy Department’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) have gradually come online since then.
