Opposition parties in province bay for president’s head
Opposition parties in the Eastern Cape have labelled President Jacob Zuma an embarrassment to the country and described the chaos that erupted in the National Assembly last night as a disgrace that was threatening South Africa’s hard-fought democracy.
DA provincial leader Athol Trollip, who was in parliament, said last night’s chaos was not good for democracy.
“I think the fact that the ANC or National Intelligence scrambled the [cellphone] signal was an absolute disgrace.
“I think the EFF got what they wanted and more. But armed police had no jurisdiction in parliament.
“The DA walked out because today it was the EFF, tomorrow it might be the DA or any opposition party that asks a difficult question and is ordered to leave. “It was a sad day for parliament. “I think it is a tragedy that the ANC is now employing the same hard and brutal force the previous regime used,” he said.
